THE 7 FUNDAMENTALS TO ENGAGING MILLENNIALS

How to Build an Employer Brand that Appeals to the Largest Generation in the Workforce

1

Fundamental 1: Fulfilment

Millennials love to know the WHY. How are your employees' knowledge and skills are applied in a meaningful way? What is the direct impact they make to the world around them? Do you know your purpose? How are you connecting the dots for employees and your team members to find their purpose?

2

Fundamental 2: Futuristic

As we move into Industry 4.0, it becomes an inevitable fact that we will need to leverage on technology to stay relevant in the industry. Technology becomes an enabler for speed that will eliminate unnecessary processes that are time consuming. How are you applying technology within your teams to optimise productivity?

3

Fundamental 3: Friendships

The world post COVID-19 has become lonelier as we work from home. People miss the things in-between, the chit chat, the grapevine, the banter that happens before meetings or during lunch. Question is, how are you developing the friendships with your team in a virtual world with limited social interactions?

4

Fundamental 4: Frequent Feedback

The Annual Performance Appraisal is good enough as a formality, but you need to have more informal check-ins with your employees and team members to re-affirm that they are on the right track. However, are you doing it in a way that is empowering, or damaging the productivity of the team?

5

Fundamental 5: Forward Framework

Millennials showed a concern with opportunities for lateral and vertical career growth and professional development opportunities. How are you investing in your team to ensure they are growing as an individual? Have you done up a career road map with them? What opportunities lie in store for them?

6

Fundamental 6: Freedom

COVID-19 accelerated work-from-home and employees are happier working from home while visiting the office for a few days a week. Their desire to balance work related with non work related commitments such as family, leisure activities, or volunteering is met with flexible working arrangements

7

Fundamental 7: Fun

How "exciting". "cool" or "hip" is your workplace? Do you have a culture that is instagram-worthy that will make candidates swoon, or is it still the same old bunch of cubicles with a clock-in clock-out system? In a world full of options, what is your organisation doing to stand out amongst the recruiting competitors to pull in the best talents?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this book about?

Engaging Millennials is all about reimagining the workplace based on the inventions of today as opposed to the rituals of yesterday. As the young generation enters the workforce, empowered by technology, they are no longer coming into the workforce with the mindset of staying in one job for a lifetime. Today, they can choose to be a gig worker, self employed, an entrepreneur or all of the above because they know how to earn a living with technology.

This book shares with leaders of teams and organisations on the key fundamentals that they need to put in place in order to build a strong employer brand to attract and retain the best talents in the market.

How do I know what generation I am from?

Baby Boomers - 1946 - 1964

Gen Xers - 1965 - 1979

Millennials - 1980 -1995

Gen Z - 1996 - 2010

Why did you write this book?

Today's workplaces are badly broken.  With 85% of employees disengaged, 23% feeling burned out, and 37% believing that their job makes no useful contribution to society, the way we do work is orthodox in many different ways

Based on my conversations with Millennials, I realised the severity of the issue and thought to myself, "There has to be a better way!"

That set me on the journey to find out which companies are highly desired by my peers and which ones are not - and to investigate why. This book is my labour of love over the past four years and it showcases an alternative pathway to become a progressive organisation that challenges the norms and makes the workplace a better one.

Who is this book written for?

This book is written for Leaders in organisations at every level - whether you are a HR Manager, a business owner of an SME, a director of an agency, or a line manager with a team of Millennials under you, this book has been written for leaders who work with Millennials on a regular basis
